Milan, 4 May 2004 – Today Il Viaggio Telecom (the Telecom Journey), an itinerary dedicated to Italian culture, art, beauty, history and traditions, has been presented by the philosopher Emanuele Severino, the artistic director of the Teatro Franco Parenti, Andrée Ruth Shammah and the CEO of Telecom Italia, Marco Tronchetti Provera.
The Telecom Journey is the latest addition to Progetto Italia 2004 and will unfold over three years.
In 2004 Cosenza , Perugia , Trieste and Ferrara (four Italian towns) will be the backdrop to a three-days Festival of artistic events inspired each time by a different subject:
“Utopia and Heresy” in Cosenza
“Spirituality and Poetry” in Perugia
“The Unconscious and Psychoanalysis” in Trieste
“Metaphysics and Mystery” in Ferrara
The themes have been selected paying attention to each town own history, the culture each of them expresses and the natural and artistic heritage they possess, rounded out by the simultaneous offer from the most diverse artistic forms: theatre, dance, mime, visual arts, cinema, readings, classical and pop music of young emerging groups, whose work is ever more closely linked to web technologies.
Historical and philosophical thoughts are interwoven, while top-ranking exponents of Italian and international culture will add their intellectual and artistic testimony to the sparkling programme of events.
The initiative has been developed by Andrée Ruth Shammah, the artistic director of the Teatro Franco Parenti in Milan .
The first stop is Cosenza , from the 21st to the 23rd May, which will be the scene of events dedicated to “Utopia and Heresy”, a topic associated with Tommaso Campanella and Gioacchino da Fiore, with the ideas of Parmenides, Pythagoras and Bernardino Telesio, and with the philosophical ferment of the sixteenth-century Academia Cosentina. All the arts will contribute to the interpretation and in-depth exploration of the subject: philosophical discussions (with the participation of more than 30 philosophers including: Marc Augé, Zygmunt Bauman, Marcello Cini, George Coyne, Giulio Giorello, Bernard McGinn, Armand Mattelart, Giacomo Marramao, Salvatore Natoli, Piergiorgio Odifreddi, Nuccio Ordine, Emanuele Severino, Tzvetan Todorov), literary events, plays, film programmes, installations, readings, and the town's own personal testimony.
After Cosenza the Telecom Journey will move on to Perugia , where it will take up the theme of “Spirituality and Poetry” from 4th to 6th June.
This town in the heart of Umbria will be re-interpreted in the light of a topic that fits it perfectly given such famous Umbrians as San Francesco D'Assisi, Santa Chiara, Jacopone da Todi, its tradition of religious lauds and monasticism. Its cultural history will be outlined up to Sandro Penna and contemporary writers.
The city will be “taken over” by three inter-related themes: Live Poets (Derek Walcott, Mario Luzi, Don Paterson, Milo De Angelis, Carlos Marzal, Franco Loi, Michael Kruger, Patrizia Cavalli; plus Chinese and Russian poets unknown in Italy); the Great Recitals (Giorgio Albertazzi, Carlo Cecchi, Valentina Cortese, Massimo Popolizio, Sandro Lombardi, to mention a few, with Anna Galiena bringing us the ecstasy of Saint Teresa of Avila, while Gino Paoli will interpret the grands chansonniers) with a panoply of improvisations, street poets, cantors in ottava rima , and Poetry Competitions .
In Trieste , from the 23rd to 26th September, the theme of “The Unconscious and Psychoanalysis” will be developed.
The story of Trieste will be told through its literary tradition and the founding figures of James Joyce and Italo Svevo in an effort to understand the mystery of the unconscious and its impact on creativity. Exponents of the visual arts, of the theatre as well as film directors, actors, singers will be the protagonists of performances on the subject.
Ferrara will be enveloped in “Mystery and Metaphysics” from the 21st to the 24th October.
This secretive city will be revealed through tales of the mysteries of the Este family, the art of Ludoviso Ariosto and Torquato Tasso, the Kabbalah and alchemy, numerology and the creativity of Giorgio De Chirico. A series of theatrical events will follow and culminate in a single grand finale .
